[Video] Hennessey gives us the Hellcat Challenger vs. Camaro ZL1 image
Hennessey Performance is probably one of the most renowned over the top tuners in North America, but they also like to play with the stock cars before delivering any of their wild interpretations.
This is why the company decided to take a benchmark in the muscle world – the very relevant Hellcat Challenger – and pit it against one of the younger top guns, the latest iteration of the Camaro ZL1. They are thus aiming to answer an important question – is the already couple of years old Hellcat still the king of the drag scene in a real world match against one of the newer competitors. When reading the sheets of paper, the Hellcat still comes on top – 6.2-liter supercharged V8 has 707 horsepower (527 kilowatts) and 650 pound-feet (880 Newton-meters) of torque. Meanwhile, the ZL1 goes around with 650 hp (485 kW) and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) from its 6.2-liter supercharged V8.
But the catch is the Bowtie representative has undergone extensive weight cuts when entering the new generation, with John Hennessey claiming there’s now a similar power-to-weight ratio. Bear in mind, both cars are in mint stock condition, but the Challenger comes fitted with an automatic and the Camaro is packing a manual gearbox. The crew decided on three races for the rolling drag race and we’ll let you see who wins the crown, only saying the results are pretty close.
