US: Woodward Dream Cruise, the best place for Detroit’s three flexing of “muscle” image

Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge are taking it to the streets this week as the Detroit Three automakers are entering the Woodward Dream Cruise mood to lift performance and marketing buzz.

Detroit’s annual automotive enthusiast extravaganza – which has been keen on honoring the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s will also have the trio of US carmakers showcasing their absolute best. Dodge will have racing enthusiasts ready to fry the asphalt on a drag strip outside of the Pontiac Silverdome on Wednesday, while Ford is delivering its performance family at the cruise for the first time. Chevrolet, meanwhile, is using the behemoth one-day car show in suburban Detroit which could draw around 1.5 million fans to showcase the 2016 Camaro. “These things are fun, but we don’t do them for fun and games,” comments Dodge brand CEO Tim Kuniskis. “We do them for a specific business reason. Woodward brings in more than 1 million people who are classic vehicle and performance vehicle enthusiasts, so it’s a very target-rich environment.”

The Cruise will be full of feature rich events form the three automakers, from Dodge’s racing enthusiasts participating in the Wednesday drag racing event able to win a 707-hp Hellcat engine. The Viper, with the Challenger and Charger hellcats will give thrill rides. The Ford Performance display will flaunt its brand new GT, the Shelby GT350 Mustang and massive F-150 Raptor. And a special 2016 Focus RS with Ken Block inspiration will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Chevrolet will bring back the Volt Silent Cruise this year, showcase vehicles and parts and accessories and a display will have in the spotlight the new 2016 Camaro coupe and convertible next to the 2016 Volt and 1955 Bel Air.
