The California Highway Patrol Has Placed An Order For This Cop Car

580 of them, to be exact.

Every few years, every police department has to replace its fleet of cop cars. They get a lot of usage after all, but the question is which brand of vehicle should these departments opt for? Ford, Chevy and Dodge all offer big sedans as well as SUVs. But the California Highway Patrol, it was just announced, has placed an order for entire new fleet of sedans statewide. That chosen brand? Dodge. More specifically, that bad ass-looking Dodge Charger Pursuit.

An order for 580 Charger Pursuits is being filled with all deliveries expected to happen over the next two years. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) conducted a public and competitive bidding process that focused on which sedan could meet its needs regarding price, performance, and payload capacity. This is a big deal for Dodge as well because the CHP is the largest state police agency in the US. All Charger Pursuits here will be rear-wheel-drive, and a majority will be powered by the 3.6-liter V6 with 292 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It also delivers up to an EPA estimated 26 mpg highway. A few of these Chargers will also come powered by the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 370 hp.
