Poll: Dodge Challenger or Nissan 370Z?

Today we compare two unlikely performance rivals, the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack and Nissan 370Z NISMO. Which of these cars would YOU rather park in your driveway?

Dodge Challenger or Nissan 370Z?

Both of these cars are rear-wheel drive and both offer plenty of speed, but they go about this mission in completely different ways. The Dodge is large and in charge, with a sonorous Hemi and spacious back seat. On the other hand, Nissan’s offering features a smaller six-cylinder engine and a much lighter curb weight. Hmm, this is a quandary. Which to choose?! Each one has its own benefits.

The Challenger R/T Scat Pack features a thundering 6.4-liter V8 that’s good for 485 horses and 475 lb-ft of torque. It can be paired with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, it needs all that giddy-up; this car tips the scales at more than 4,200 pounds … Yikes!

Nissan’s 370Z NISMO features a dramatically smaller 3.7-liter V6 engine. It puts out a heroic 350 horsepower along with 276 lb-ft of peak torque. Making up for lost displacement compared to the Dodge, it revs to a heady 7,500 RPM. A six-speed manual or seven-ratio automatic gearbox is on the menu. Even at its heaviest, the NISMO weighs around 900 pounds less than the portly Challenger, giving it a significant advantage in maneuverability, if not outright speed.

So, which of these two mean machines do YOU prefer, the big, bad Dodge with its Hemi V8 or the light and tight Nissan? This is a tough comparison, but choosing a favorite will probably come down to how you plan on using either machine. If you regularly attend track days the 370Z might be a better choice. If you routinely have passengers go with the Challenger.
