Jeep heading to Easter Safari with two new concepts

Jeep, in conjunction with Fiat Chrysler’s Mopar parts division, has released teaser images of two concept vehicle that will debut later this month at the 50th annual Easter Jeep Safari.

The first concept is known as the Jeep Crew Chief. No further details were given, but the concept’s name implies it could take the form of a four-door pickup truck. It’s been rumored for years that Jeep is planning a pickup truck version of its next-generation Wrangler, and the Crew Chief could be an early preview of that vehicle.

On the styling front, the Crew Chief concept takes plenty of design cues from the Jeep Gladiator pickup from the 1960s. The concept looks to have a quad-headlight setup similar to the Gladiator, and the rig even sports a version of Jeep’s iconic “Rhino” grille. Jeep will soon launch an all-new Grand Wagoneer model — and possibly even a plain Wagoneer — so there could be room for a Gladiator revival as well.

Jeep’s second concept is clearly Wrangler-based and adopts the name Trailcat. The concept should be plenty trail ready with knobby, oversized tires, but it’s the second part of its name that has us most intrigued.

Suspiciously close to Hellcat, this Trailcat model could be packing the same 707 horsepower supercharged V8 that powers the Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcat models. Adding credence to that notion, a modified hood with extra air vents is clearly visible in Jeep’s teaser image.

The Easter Jeep Safari is set to kick off on March 19th, so we should have more answers in just a couple of weeks.
