Leaky pump could cause brake problems
Fiat-Chrysler is recalling about 100,000 Dodge Dart sedans from model year 2013 and 2014. According to the NHTSA report, in affected vehicles, engine oil from the vacuum pump might seep into the brake booster, damaging components. FCA found that this could result in a loss of brake assist, making it harder to stop.
Both 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter cars are affected, built between Feb. 27, 2012 and Jan. 23, 2014.
Chrysler will notify owners, though there is no schedule yet, and fix the problem free of charge. Technicians will inspect the booster for oil, if none is found, the shop will replace the vacuum tube assembly anyway. If oil is found, the vacuum pump, vacuum tube assembly, brake booster and master cylinder will be replaced. Parts aren’t currently ready, hence the delay in notification.
