FCA recalls minivans to replace transmission pump
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is preparing to replace transmission pumps in certain 2015-2016 Chrysler Town & Country, 2016 Dodge Journey and 2016 RAM ProMaster vehicles.
The company’s quality department in March raised concerns over seized pump motors in the 62TE six-speed automatic transmission. A subsequent investigation determined that variances in the pump rotor pocket are to blame for seized or broken rotors.
“If the transmission loses hydraulic pressure, the vehicle may lose motive power, increasing the risk of a crash,” recall documents warn.
The company claims to be unaware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
Service technicians will remove the transmission and replace the oil pump in more than 26,000 affected vehicles. If the pump has already failed, the transmission will require a new torque converter.
