FCA launches 4G LTE for 2017 models
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is preparing to launch 4G LTE service for a handful of 2017 models.
LTE is supported by FCA’s fourth-generation Uconnect v8.4 infotainment and navigation systems, available with the 2017 Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger and Chrysler 300.
Aside from its faster potential data speeds, the LTE network is claimed to provide broader network coverage and improved reliability. The updated Uconnect system is also said to be more responsive and faster than previous generations.
The fourth-generation platform adds support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, providing drivers with deeper smartphone integration and a wider range of hands-free features.
It is unclear if the 4G LTE service will be priced differently than the existing 3G packages. The 3G hotspot pricing starts at $10 per day, $20 per week, or $50 per month.
The company has not yet announced launch dates for the 2017 Charger, Challenger or Chrysler 300.
