The issue is found on Dodge Chargers from 2011 to 2014, and has to do with the side airbag sensor. According to Dodge, the sensors can be overly sensitive resulting in triggering the side airbag if the door has been kicked or slammed with excessive force. There have been three injuries related to the issue and no accidents as a result of the problem.
The company will recalibrate control modules to prevent further unexpected deployment of the air bags and seatbealt pretensioners.
There is no timeline for when this recall will begin, so in the interim, “FCA US advises that owners of these vehicles exercise caution when closing doors.”
