2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Front View In Motion 4
Dodge will “significantly” increase the number of Charger and Challenger Hellcat models it sells for the 2016 model year, after demand outpaced supply this year. However, to help balance supply and demand for the wild 707-hp supercharged Hellcat engines, Dodge will cancel some existing orders for 2015 cars. Production of Hellcat engines and cars will double for the 2016 model year. This year, Dodge has built around 4,000 examples of the high-performance cars, so more than 8,000 can be expected for 2016. The Dodge Charger Hellcat and Dodge Challenger Hellcat take significantly longer to build than the cars’ regular versions, in part because the 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engines are subjected to a 42-minute dyno test after assembly. “We could not have asked for a more enthusiastic response to the Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats,” Dodge and SRT CEO Tim Kuniskis said in a statement. “To meet this demand, we are more than doubling our SRT Hellcat production for 2016 and simplifying the process to make it easier for our enthusiasts to get their hands on the hottest muscle cars in history.” Dodge officials previously confirmed that they stopped taking orders for new Hellcat models on March 9, and the company plans to build and “scheduled” 2015 Hellcat orders as planned. But any cars that were ordered but never scheduled for production (for instance, cars ordered late in the model year) will be cancelled. As compensation, those buyers will be offered an as-yet unspecified discount on a 2016 Hellcat. The number of Hellcats allocated to each Dodge dealership will be adjusted based on a new formula that takes into account that dealer’s prior sales of SRT and Hellcat models, as well as “days on lot” numbers that reflect how long it takes the dealer to sell a new Hellcat. Dealers will be receive the first half of their 2016 model year allocation this August, with the second half available from February 2016. The 2016 Dodge Charger Hellcat and 2016 Dodge Challenger Hellcat also receive a little more standard equipment for the new model year. An “ultra-premium” Laguna leather interior and an 8.4-inch touchscreen navigation system are now included as standard on both models.
