Dodge Charger Pursuit gets 12.1-inch touchscreen for 2016
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has introduced a significant technological upgrade for its 2016 Dodge Charger Pursuit.
The law-enforcement sedan has been outfitted with a gigantic 12.1-inch touchscreen on the center stack, giving the interior a look that appears to be inspired by the Tesla Model S. The display is significantly larger than FCA’s biggest civilian Uconnect offerings.
The company suggests the extra visual real estate allows the Uconnect system to serve as a 1024×768 display for “nearly every” police computer system, allowing the computer to be kept in the trunk. Drivers can quickly toggle between the computer interface and the vehicle control menus, though most of the most common functions, such as climate control, are duplicated with physical controls mounted under the touchscreen or on the steering wheel.
“Initial feedback found that a traditional, center console-mounted laptop or screen positioned between driver and front passenger often added dangerous impact points or could even interfere with airbag deployment during a crash,” FCA notes. ” In addition, these third-party upfit solutions were considered distractive to the officer’s outward vision and line-of-sight.”
The company will begin taking orders for the 2016 Charger Pursuit in January, with production slated for March.
