The self-proclaimed “fastest and most powerful sedan in the world” is powered by the same scorching 6.2 litre supercharged Hemi V8 that propels the Challenger coupe to 96km/h (60mph) in a very super 3.5 seconds.
Dodge’s SRT arm says the four-door Charger Hellcat will hit 60mph just a fraction slower at 3.7 seconds.
Of course, one near rival is BMW’s special-edition 30th Anniversary M5, which lists a 0-100km/h (62mph) time of 3.9 seconds – suggesting it’s likely on par with the Charger SRT Hellcat.
(In its regular form, the M5 lists a 0-100km/h time of 4.3 seconds – hardly a disappointment.)
SRT adds that the Charger Hellcat will cross the quarter-mile line in 11 seconds and boasts a top speed of, oh, a lazy 328km/h.
Like the Challenger SRT Hellcat, the 6.2 litre super V8 of this four-door hero boasts a forged steel crankshaft among other enhancements.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed auto that Dodge boasts will deliver 160 millisecond shifts, with rev-matching.
The Hellcat is pulled up by 390mm two-piece brake discs with Brembo six-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers at the rear.
The whole thing sits on big 20-inch forged aluminium wheels wrapped in 275/40ZR Pirelli rubber.
The Charger SRT Hellcat goes on sale in the US early next year, with pricing and production numbers to be confirmed closer to launch.
