Fiat-Chrysler wants to help ‘car-life balance’ – whatever that means
Today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Fiat-Chrysler announced it would include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the fourth-generation of its Uconnect infotainment system. Including software for the two most popular smartphone operating systems is part of Fiat-Chrysler’s attempt to seamlessly integrate the infotainment system in your car with the rest of your life.
FCA will also have an interactive digital display at CES to show its future for “intelligent transportation.” The concept should be a fun experience for attendees, thanks to the slew of futuristic driving amenities: predictive technology that remembers your driving habits, increased communication with other cars on the road to prevent accidents, a “Follow-me” mode that requests to follow other vehicles and a Waze-esqe map system.
Aside from consumer tech, Fiat-Chrysler will also show new innovations inside the Dodge Charger Pursuit. The 12.1-inch screen-equipped police cruisers will run a modified version of Uconnect, allowing for precinct customization as well as driver personalization. The massive screen should help make the in-car laptop a thing of the past.
The new generation of Uconnect hits Chrysler infotainment systems this year, and the Dodge Charger Pursuits should start trickling into your town over the next few years. If you’re currently sporting a Uconnect equipped vehicle and wondering if it’ll get updated – we’re waiting on word from Chrysler.
